Eric's site is a real goldmine for all Honda 125 XL Varadero owners. In particular, you'll find an excellent tutorial on synchronizing the machine's carburetors. Eric has kindly allowed us to reproduce his tutorial here.
First sync on a Varadero?
If this is the first time you've synchro'd your Varadero, there's a screw to remove that's difficult to access and, what's more, factory-glued. To access it without problems, you need to remove the front fairing. It's not compulsory, but it's easier.
The engine must be warm (4 bars on the meter).
Remove the screw and fit the M5 end cap with its gasket on the right-hand side of the bike.
Sorry it's a bit blurry, but this is the M5 tip in place with its gasket.
Connect the hose between the M5 connector and the A connector on the Twinmax
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the rear carburettor on the left side of the motorcycle.
Add a photo for better localization
Connect the second hose to the Twinmax B connector instead of the vacuum hose.
Now we're ready to sync.
Carburetor synchronization for Honda Varadero
- Switch on the Twinmax by pressing the red M/A button
- Turn the sensitivity knob all the way to max.
- Set the dial pointer to zero using the zero button (this is quite sensitive to do)
- Turn sensitivity knob to min
- Start the engine and let it idle
- If the needle deviation is not sufficient, gently increase sensitivity
- Act on the adjustment screw (I didn't take a photo of it) located to the left of the M5 nipple on the lever connecting the 2 carburetors.
- Once the sensitivity has reached maximum and your needle remains at zero, the synchro is set.
- Once that's done, switch off the unit and disconnect the hoses, remove the M5 connector and replace the one on top with its gasket, and don't forget to reconnect the vacuum hose to the rear carburettor.
- Then reassemble the fairing if necessary. I hope I haven't forgotten anything.
